A wise old man in Honduras once showed me that necessity is the mother of invention. We had finished laying a block wall the day before and el mistro decided that it needed a door in it. Some of us complained about it and almost all of us just laughed at him. We didn't have the tools for that sort of thing. We barely had the tools to do the simple task of laying it in the first place. However, one of the oldest men on the crew and the hardest worker of us all hands down, walked away nonchalantly and started banging on a piece of scrap rebar with a hammer and in seconds returned with a chisel. The door was carved out faster than I would have thought possible. I walked up to him like a hard core fan approaches his favorite rock star and asked him in what little Spanish I knew if he had ever done that before. He said "No, I saw what we needed and a knew what we had." he shrugged and handed it to me as if to say "Here kid, have a bit of my awesomeness to remember this by" I should of had him sign it because I still have it.
Jobs are hard to find. I never expected it to be so hard. I've applied for countless jobs and now feel numb to the words "Keep an eye out for me." All to no avail. I think they just don't exist. When one can't pay ones rent or find a job they start to think "What shall become of me? What shall I do?"
The other day I was thinking. What am I able to do? What can I give the world so that it will let me live in it? My grand idea was... cheesecake. You may think it funny, but if you have ever had a home made chilled mint chocolate cheesecake you would know that something like that can change the world forever. Lately people have been asking me "Are you still making you cheesecakes?" or "Can you make me a cheesecake?" and I just can't stand to let that rent paying opportunity go to waste. So, I changed my Facebook status (Its amazing what you can do through Facebook) and almost instantly I got five orders!
The problem of money is all but solved but all in all I think I'm one step closer to quenching my necessity by reinventing myself.
Till next time,
Zach
I love it! Go, you!
